Í ljósi þess að hertar sóttvarnaraðgerðir voru kynntar 24. mars telja LÍS tilefni til þess að minna háskóla og yfirvöld á kröfur stúdenta um nauðsynleg úrræði til þess að stemma stigu við áhrif heimsfaraldursins á stúdenta. Stúdentar eiga í samtali við stjórnvöld um sveigjanleika Menntasjóðsins, sköpun sumarstarfa og skipulag sumarnáms en eftir standa áhyggjur stúdenta af fyrirkomulagi prófa í vor. Undirrituð virða mat sérfræðinga um alvarlega stöðu varðandi útbreiðslu veirunnar og sýna því fullan skilning að gripið hefur verið til þess að loka skólabyggingum, þ.m.t. háskólum.
Ekki skal skylda stúdenta til þess að mæta í próf á prófstað
Nú er ár liðið frá því að kórónuveiran skaut fyrst upp kollinum á Íslandi og þó að bólusetningar gefi tilefni til bjartsýni þá sýnir núverandi staða faraldursins innanlands mjög skýrt að hættan er ekki liðin hjá. Veiran er ófyrirsjáanleg, við höfum öll þurft að bregðast hratt við og vera sveigjanleg, en eftir því sem á líður verður mikilvægt að gera ráðstafanir til þess að háskólar geti starfað með einhverjum fyrirsjáanleika þannig að nám raskist sem minnst. Vel hefur gengið að aðlaga staðnám að sóttvarnarreglum með hólfun og fjarnámi en nú þarf að gera stúdentum kleift að stunda nám alfarið að heiman frá með því að innleiða netpróf eða annarskonar námsmat en próf á prófstað.
Opna skal námsaðstöðu um leið og hægt er
Það hefur verið krafa stúdenta frá byrjun faraldursins að boðið sé upp á staðnám og námsaðstöðu þegar hægt er en auðvitað á öryggi að vera í fyrsta sæti og því eðlilegt að loka skólum eða takmarka fjölda eftir stöðu faraldursins. Það skal þó leita allra leiða til þess að veita stúdentum aðgang að aðstöðu með öruggum hætti, sem hefur gengið vel hingað til, sérstaklega með tillit til stúdenta í verknámi sem ekki er hægt að stunda heiman frá. Hafa ber í huga að stúdentar í bóklegu námi þurfa einnig á aðstöðu að halda. Stúdentar hafa mjög misjafna aðstöðu til þess að sinna fjarnámi heiman frá og því skal opna lesaðstöðu sem fyrst eða um leið og samkomutakmarkanir leyfa.
Stúdenta vilja mæta í skólann, en enn skortir úrræði fyrir þau sem ekki geta það
Við viljum árétta að þó það sé mikilvægt fyrir stúdenta að mega mæta í skólann þegar hægt er þá er alfarið óásættanlegt að skylda fólk til þess að mæta. Í yfirlýsingu LÍS frá 8. okt 2020 var gerð krafa um að aðlaga skuli námsmat á öllum námsleiðum háskóla þannig að enginn neyðist til þess að mæta í próf á prófstað og endurtökum við þá kröfu nú. Það er ekki þar með sagt að engin próf geti eða skuli eiga sér stað á prófstað, heldur verður að veita þeim sem ekki treysta sér til þess að mæta aðrar leiðir til þess að sýna fram á námsárangur. Stúdenta hópurinn er fjölbreyttur en öll eiga þau skilið að geta haldið áfram með námið sitt. Því þarf fjölbreytt og sveigjanleg úrræði.

LÍS' statement on the adjustment of assessment in universities due to COVID-19
In light of the introduction of tougher disease control measures on March 24, LÍS sees reason to remind universities and authorities of students' demands for the necessary measures to curb the effects of the pandemic on students. Students are in conversation with the government about the flexibility of the Education Fund, the creation of summer jobs and the organization of summer studies, but students' concerns about the arrangements for exams remain unmet. The undersigned respect the experts' assessment of the serious situation regarding the spread of the virus and therefore fully understand that steps have been taken to close school buildings, incl. universities.
Students shall not be obliged to attend examinations on site
It is now a year since the Coronavirus first appeared in Iceland, and although vaccinations give cause for optimism, the current state of the pandemic shows very clearly that the danger has not passed. The virus is unpredictable, we have all had to react swiftly and be flexible, but as time goes on it will be important to take measures so that universities can work with some predictability so that learning is disrupted as little as possible. The adaptation of on-site study to epidemic prevention rules through compartmenting and distance learning has been successful, but now it is necessary to enable students to study entirely from home by introducing online exams or other types of assessment than exams at the examination site.
Study facilities should be opened as soon as possible
Students have emphasised from the beginning of the pandemic that on-site instruction and study facilities be offered whenever possible, but of course safety should be prioritised and therefore it is natural to close schools or limit attendance depending on the status of the pandemic. However, every effort shall be made to provide students with access to facilities in a safe manner, which has been successful so far, especially with regard to students in vocational education which cannot be pursued from home. It should be borne in mind that students in theoretical studies also need facilities. Students have very different facilities for distance learning from home and therefore reading facilities should be opened as soon as possible or as soon as meeting restrictions allow.
Students want to attend school, but there is still a lack of resources for those who cannot
We would like to emphasize that although it is important for students to be able to attend school whenever possible, it is completely unacceptable to oblige people to attend. In LÍS’ statement from 8 October 2020, students demanded that assessment should be adapted in all study programs at universities so that no one is forced to attend an examination in person, and we now repeat that demand. This does not mean that no exams can or should take place at the exam site, but must other options to demonstrate academic achievement must be provided to those who are unwilling or unable to show up to exams in person. The student group is diverse, but they all deserve to be able to continue their studies. Therefore, diverse and flexible resources are needed.
