Landssamtök íslenskra stúdenta auglýsa eftir áhugasömum einstaklingum í nefndir samtakanna en þær eru lagabreytinganefnd, fjármálanefnd, alþjóðanefnd, gæðanefnd, markaðsnefnd og jafnréttisnefnd.
Landssamtök íslenskra stúdenta (LÍS) voru stofnuð 3. nóvember 2013 og eru reghnhlífarsamtök háskólanema á Íslandi og íslenskra háskólanema á erlendri grundu. Aðildarfélög innan LÍS eru Háskólinn á Akureyri, Háskólinn í Reykjavík, Háskóli Íslands, Háskólinn á Bifröst, Landbúnaðarháskóli Íslands, Listaháskóli Íslands, Háskólinn á Hólum og SÍNE (Samband íslenskra námsmanna erlendis).

Opið er fyrir umsóknir frá 24. ágúst til og með 10. september. Í umsókn skal koma fram: Hvaða nefnd þú sækir um í, nafn, menntun, reynsla af félagsstörfum og/eða önnur reynsla sem gæti nýst og stutt lýsing á ástæðu umsóknar. GÆÐANEFND
Brennur þú fyrir eflingu íslensks háskólaumhverfis? Þá er gæðanefndin fyrir þig. Nefndin starfar náið með fjölbreyttum einstaklingum og stofnunum á landsvísu sem vinna að eflingu gæða háskólanáms svo sem Rannís og Gæðaráði íslenskra háskóla. Skemmtileg verkefni eru á döfinni starfsárið 2021-2022 en öll verkefnin hafa það að markmiði að auka þekkingu á gæðamálum meðal íslenskra stúdenta sem og að efla þátttöku þeirra í gæðastarfi háskólanna. Um er að ræða einstakt tækifæri til að efla gæði háskólanáms á Íslandi og koma með eigin hugmyndir hvernig hægt er að efla gæði. Við óskum eftir þremur metnaðarfullum og vinnusömum einstaklingum í nefndina.

FJÁRMÁLANEFND
Fjármálanefnd sér um utanumhald fjármála LÍS auk fjáröflunar samtakanna og helstu viðburða. Það vinnur náið með Markaðsnefndinni við skipulagningu og framkvæmd viðburða sambandsins. Nefndin sér um að byggja upp og viðhalda samstarfi LÍS og fyrirtækja með þjónustusamningum eða styrkjum auk þess að vinna að styrkumsóknum innan stærri stofnana. Fyrir utan að öðlast færni í styrkumsóknum er það líka frábært tækifæri til að hitta annað fólk og vinna saman sem teymi. Leitað er að þremur áhugasömum aðilum til að sitja í fjármálanefnd auk framkvæmdastjóra.

ALÞJÓÐANEFND
Alþjóðanefnd LÍS sinnir alþjóðlegum skuldbindingum LÍS, sækir fróðleik til alþjóðlegra stúdenta og færir þann fróðleik heim til Íslands. Nefndin sinnir undirbúningsvinnu og úrvinnslu í kringum alþjóðlega viðburði sem fulltrúar LÍS sækja, þá einna helst á vegum Evrópusamtaka stúdenta (ESU), ásamt því að endurskoða alþjóðastefnu LÍS. Með þátttöku í nefndinni munu meðlimir fá innsýn inn í starf LÍS og ekki síður inn í störf alþjóðlegra stúdentahreyfinga en nefndin sér um að kynna sér og vekja athygli á tækifærum til þátttöku stúdenta í alþjóðlegu stúdentasamstarfi. Nefndin mun í sameiningu móta starf vetrarins undir handleiðslu alþjóðafulltrúa. Hvers kyns reynsla eða þekking á alþjóðlegri umhverfi er kostur en alls ekki krafa, einungis brennandi áhugi á því að læra nýja hluti! Laus sæti í nefndinni eru fjögur og leitumst við eftir fjölbreyttum hópi af áhugasömu fólki.

MARKAÐSNEFND
Markaðsnefndin miðar að því að efla sýnileika samtakanna innan íslensks samfélags og sérstaklega háskólasamfélagsins. Nefndin heldur utan um vefsíðu samtakanna, samfélagsmiðla, í samvinnu við önnur embætti og nefndir varðandi innihald og er nefndinni alltaf velkomið að koma með fleiri hugmyndir að markaðsefni. Nefndin skipuleggur og framkvæmir tvær markaðsherferðir á hverju ári til þess að vekja athygli á réttindabaráttu stúdenta og er einnig ábyrg fyrir skipulagningu viðburða samtakanna ásamt fjármálanefnd. Reynsla og/eða þekking á grafískri hönnun, ritun og/eða samfélagsmiðlum er kostur. Laus sæti í nefndinni eru þrjú.

JAFNRÉTTISNEFND
Jafnréttisnefnd heldur utan um verkefni og viðburði LÍS sem tengjast jafnréttismálum. Nefndin ber ábyrgð á því að jafnrétti sé framfylgt í öllum málum og skal vera framkvæmdarstjórn LÍS til ráðgjafar í störfum og málefnum stjórnar. Nefndin mun eiga í samráði við jafnréttisnefndir háskólanna og taka þátt í öðrum verkefnum. Laus sæti í nefndinni eru þrjú.

LAGABREYTINGANEFND
Lagabreytinganefnd LÍS sér um endurskoðun á lögum og verklagi á hverju ári. Tryggja þarf að lögin séu í samræmi við starf samtakanna og að samtökin fylgi þeim í hvívetna. Lagabreytinganefnd sér um gerð á breytingartillögum sem lagðar eru fyrir fulltrúaráð LÍS. Séu tilögurnar samþykktar þar fara þær fyrir Landsþing LÍS sem er æðsta ákvörðunarvald samtakanna. Möguleikarnir til þess að bæta skilvirkni og starf samtakanna eru því miklir með þátttöku í lagabreytinganefnd. Óskað er eftir einstaklingum sem hafa áhuga á lögum og lagabreytingum. Lögfræðiþekking er ekki skilyrði en þó kostur. Laus sæti í nefndinni eru fjögur.

The National Union of Icelandic Students (LÍS) is looking for people interested in joining the Union’s committees. The committees are: the Quality Assurance Committee, Legislative Committee, Finance Committee, International Committee, Marketing Committee and Equal Rights Committee
The National Union of Icelandic Students, or LÍS, was founded November 3rd, 2013, and is an union for students of higher education in Iceland and for Icelandic students abroad. LÍS is an umbrella organization within which there are eight member unions that represent the students of the University of Akureyri, Bifröst University, the Agricultural University of Iceland, Hólar University College, University of Iceland, Reykjavík University, the Art Academy of Iceland, and SÍNE (Icelandic students that study abroad).
HOW DO I APPLY?
Applications are open from August 24th until September 10th. Let us know which committee you are interested in, your name, education, experience of social activities and/or other relevant experience and a few sentences describing your motivation for applying. QUALITY ASSURANCE COMMITTEE
Are you passionate about improving the Icelandic system of higher education? Then the Quality Assurance Committee is something for you. The Committee is responsible for the engagement of students in quality assurance nationwide and works closely with other units and institutions that work on the improvement of the quality of higher education. E.g. the Icelandic Centre for Research (RANNÍS) and the Quality Council of Icelandic Universities. All projects have a goal of promoting knowledge of quality matters among Icelandic students and inspire their participation. This is a unique opportunity to improve the quality of higher education in Iceland. There are three available seats in the Committee.

LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE
The Legislative Committee reviews LÍS´s standing orders and procedures each year. It must be ensured that the standing orders are in line with the work of the organization and also that the organization follows them to the fullest. The Legislative Committee prepares amendments to the standing orders and proposes them to the Representative board. If they approve of the amendments, they get sent to the General Assembly for confirmation. Therefore the Legislative committee provides a great opportunity to improve the efficiency and general work of the association. The Legislative Committee wishes for applicants interested in law and legal amendments. Knowledge of law is not necessary, but beneficial. There are four available seats in the committee.

THE FINANCE COMMITTEE
The Finance Committee provides financial oversight for LÍS as well as funding for the Union and its biggest events. It works closely with the Marketing Committee in organising and executing Union´s events. The Committee takes care of building up and maintaining cooperation between LÍS and companies through service contracts or grants as well as working on grant applications within bigger institutions. Apart from gaining grant application skills, it is also a great opportunity to meet other people and work together as a team. There are three available seats in the committee.

THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE
The International Committee is responsible for the international obligations of LÍS. It gathers knowledge from foreign student unions and brings that knowledge back to Iceland. The Committee prepares and processes international events attended by LÍS representatives, primarily under the European Student Union (ESU). They will also work on updating LÍS’s international policy. Through participation in the committee, members will gain insight into the work of LÍS, as well as the work of international student movements. The Committee is responsible for shedding light on opportunities regarding student participation in any kind of international student co-operation. The committee will, under the guidance of the International Officer, collectively shape the committee’s activities for the upcoming academic year. There are four available seats in the committee.

MARKETING COMMITTEE
The Marketing Committee aims to promote the union within the Icelandic community and especially the university community. The committee manages the union’s website, social media and podcast, in collaboration with other officers and committees with regard to content. The committee plans and executes two marketing campaigns each year, that highlight specific issues concerning students’ rights and is also responsible for planning the union’s events along with the Finance Committee. Experience and/or knowledge of graphic design, writing and/or social media is an advantage. There are three available seats in the committee.

THE EQUAL RIGHTS COMMITTEE
The Equal Rights Committee is involved in and responsible for tasks and events that LÍS undertakes that involve social justice-related affairs. The committee is responsible for overseeing that everyone is equal in all of LÍS’ affairs and shall guide and advise the Executive Committee of LÍS in matters of equality and equal rights. The committee will be working with the equal rights committees and officers of member unions as well as participating in other projects. There are three available seats in the committee.

LÍS hefur borist beiðni um að tilnefna stúdentafulltrúa í úttekt á Háskólanum á Akureyri sem fer fram 22-26. nóvember 2021.
Í handbók gæðaráðs kemur fram að LÍS skuli tilnefna stúdenta frá aðildarfélögum sínum og einnig að tilnefndur fulltrúi geti ekki verið úr sömu stofnun og verið er að taka út (Háskólinn á Akureyri).
Fulltrúinn má ekki hafa náin tengsl við stofnunina í gegnum fjölskyldutengsl - að náinn fjölskyldumeðlimur stundi nám við stofnunina eða starfi við hana.

Seeking student representative for a review of the University of Akureyri
LÍS has received a request to nominate a student representative for a quality review of the University of Akureyri, which will take place 22-26. November 2021
The Quality Board handbook states that LÍS shall nominate students from its member associations and also that a nominated representative may not be from the same institution as is being reviewed (University of Akureyri).
The student representative must not have a close connection with the institution through family ties - that a close family member studies or works with the institution.
The student representative may not have graduated more than one year earlier
The student representative must have experience of the Icelandic university system and have been a student at an Icelandic university
The review team signs a statement confirming that there is no conflict of interest
This list of requirements is not exhaustive and the final decision on eligibility is made by the Quality Board.
The representative must be available all day, on the days of the audit. This is a paid position and the student representative is paid the same fee as other members of the review team. It is not possible to say at this time whether the review is carried out locally or electronically. The student representative must be fluent in spoken and written English.

Mánaðarlegur pistill forsetans - 27. júlí 2021

Ágætu lesendur,
Öðrum mánuðinum í embætti forsetans er nú lokið. Eins og búast mætti við var júlí tiltölulega rólegt tímaskeið, en margir hagsmunaaðilar þessarar baráttu voru í fríi, ég þar á meðal. Það þýðir samt ekki að allt var sett á ís á meðan, en stúdentabaráttan er alltaf mikilvægt að heyja.
Byrjun mánaðarins var eytt í áframhaldandi verkefnum sem lýst voru í fyrri pistlinum. Annað slíkra verkefna er þátttaka í stýrihóp Menntamálaráðuneytisins sem rýnir í menntastefnu til 2030 og hugsanlegar aðgerðir í takt við hana. Þó að engir fundir með þessum hóp hafa átt sér stað nýlega hefur samt verið tími nýttur í því að tryggja að allar aðgerðir taka einnig tillit til háskólastigsins, en stefnan er frekar miðuð að leik-, grunn- og framhaldsskólastigum.
Hitt verkefnið felur í sér að halda viðburð þar sem frambjóðendum í Alþingiskosningum næstu væri veitt vettvang til þess að koma sínum skoðunum á framfæri varðandi málefni stúdenta. Ýmsir frambjóðendur hafa lýst yfir áhuga á þátttöku. Við fögnum þessum viðbrögðum og hlökkum innilega til þessa viðburðar, væntanlega í byrjun septembers.
Í þessum síðastliðnum mánuði var miklu púðri eytt í að styrkja okkar alþjóðlegt tengslanet. Á meðan frítíminn minn stóð yfir fór ég til Belgíu og Lúxemborgar og hitti stúdentasamtök þar. Í höfuðborg Belgíu fékk ég það yndislegt tækifæri að hitta forseta og annan tveggja varaforseta Samtaka evrópskra stúdenta (e. European Students‘ Union, eða ESU). Þessi hittingur var í óformlegri kantinum, en hann var samt fróðlegur. Það var einkum rætt hlutverk okkar sem stúdentafulltrúar og hvernig við eigum að koma opinberlega fram.

Nokkrum dögum síðar var ég kominn til Lúxemborgar. Þrátt fyrir ástandið þar fékk ég að hitta forseta og aðalritara Samband lúxemborgískra stúdenta (f. Union Nationale des Étudiant-e-s du Luxembourg, eða UNEL). UNEL og LÍS funduðu formlega til að ræða stöðu mála innan beggja samtaka og landa. Rætt var m.a. aukin fjöltyngni í háskólasamfélaginu og geðheilsu stúdenta.

Mikið var lært af þessum fundi og við vonum að við fáum fleiri tækifæri til prýðilegs samstarfs með UNEL.
Siglt var í gegnum júlí 2021 eins og nærri mætti geta. Hins vegar bíður ágúst okkur mikið fjör, en skólaárið fer þá að hefjast. Krefjandi en samt spennandi tímar eru framundan fyrir okkur stúdenta, og ég veit að við munum standa okkur eins og hetjurnar sem við erum.

Dear readers,
The second month of the presidency is now over. As might be expected, July was a relatively quiet period, as many of us in the student battle were on vacation, myself included. That does not mean that everything was put on ice though, as there is always work to be done in this fight.
The beginning of the month was spent on the ongoing projects described in the previous column. One such project is participation in a steering group under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture (i. Menntamálaráðuneytið). This steering group reviews the education policy spanning from the current year to 2030 and possible measures in line with it. Although no meetings with this group have taken place recently, time has been to put to use ensuring that all measures also take higher education into account, as the policy is rather focused on pre-school, primary and secondary school levels.
The other project involves holding an event where candidates in the next Althingi elections would be given a platform to express their views on student issues. Various candidates have expressed interest in participating. We welcome this response and sincerely look forward to this event, presumably in early September.
This last month, a lot of moves have been made in strengthening our international network. During my vacation, I went to Belgium and Luxembourg and met student unions there. In the Belgian capital, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet the President and one of the two Vice Presidents of the European Students' Union (ESU). This meeting was on the informal side, but it was still informative. In particular, our role as student representatives and how we should present ourselves in the public sphere was discussed. The first photo above captures said meeting.
A few days later I arrived in Luxembourg. Despite the situation there, I met the President and Secretary-General of the National Union of Luxembourgish Students (f. Union Nationale des Étudiants-e-s du Luxembourg, or UNEL). UNEL and LÍS formally met to discuss the state of affairs within both organizations and countries. Discussions included increased multilingualism in the university community and the mental health of students. The second picture above captures said meeting.
Much has been learned from this meeting and we hope to have more opportunities for a magnificent partnership with UNEL.
As expected, July 2021 was smooth sailing. However, a lot awaits us in August, as the school year is getting ready to begin. Challenging but still exciting times lie ahead for us students, and I know that we students will take them on heroically.

Mánaðarlegur pistill forsetans - 25. júní 2021
Ágætu lesendur,
Nú er liðinn nákvæmlega einn mánuður síðan skiptafundur LÍS átti sér stað. Þessa örstutta mánuði mætti lýsa sem viðburðarríkur, ef stiklað er á stóru. Fyrst var viðurkennt hvað fulltrúahópur stúdenta er að fjölbreytast, einmitt í takt við jafnréttisstefnu samtakanna þar sem minnst er á mikilvægi þess að jaðarhópar fái vettvang. Einnig var mikill léttir þegar réttindin mín að starfa í þessu embætti voru tryggð með atvinnuleyfi. Þetta tvennt var mikið fagnaðarefni, enda eiga LÍS að vera fyrir öll.
Það mátti hins vegar ekki fagna mjög lengi, en stórkostleg vinna var að bíða eftir mér og okkur öllum í stúdentabaráttunni. Fyrsta stóra verkefnið sem ég hef sinnt er sem fulltrúi í ráðgefandi stefnuhóp á vegum Menntamálaráðuneytisins. Þar fá mismunandi hagsmunaaðilar í menntamálum tækifærið til að tjá sig um menntastefnu til ársins 2030. Samstarfið er öflugt, enda er verið að rýna stefnuna og ydda aðgerðir út frá henni. Við hlökkum öll til að sjá hvað mun koma úr þessari vinnu.
Annað verkefni á borðinu snýst í kringum Alþingiskosningar, en þær verða haldnar í byrjun hausts. Mikilvægt er að meta hvar frambjóðendur standa í öllum málum sem stúdenta snerta. Frá menntamálum til menntasjóðsmála, frá jafnréttismálum til atvinnumála, við verðum að sjá til þess að stúdentar njóti jafnra réttinda í íslensku samfélagi. Stefnt er á að hitta sem flesta frambjóðendur með því markmiði að láta stúdenta taka upplýstar ákvarðanir þegar farið er að greiða atkvæði. Framkvæmdastjórn LÍS mun víst sinna þessari vinnu af stakri prýði.
Greinilegt er að forsetahlutverkið krefst mikils af einstaklingi. Stökkt var strax í djúpu laugina og maður er ennþá að fóta sig. Þrátt fyrir þetta tvennt hefur þessi mánuður verið notalegur og ég veit að bjartir tímar eru framundan fyrir mig sem og öll sem eru með mér í liði.
Að lokum langar mig að hvetja alla lesendur að hafa samband við okkur skuli eitthvað liggur þér á hjarta. Símanúmer og netfang samtakanna finnast neðst á þessari vefsíðu. Sem sameinuð rödd stúdenta er mikilvægt að við látum í okkur heyrast.

Dear readers,
It has now been exactly one month since the executive committee of LÍS changed. This very short month can be described as eventful, to sum it up. First, it was nationally recognized that the student representative group is diversifying, precisely in line with the association's Equal Rights Policy, where the importance of marginalized groups having a platform is highlighted. It was also a great relief when my rights to work in this position were secured by a work permit. These two events were a great cause for celebration, as LÍS should be for everyone.
However, celebrations did not last for very long, as a lot of work was waiting for me and all of us in the students’ rights battle. The first major project I have taken part in is as a member of a steering group under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture. There, various stakeholders in education will have the opportunity to comment on the education policy that goes to the year 2030. The collaboration is powerful, as the policy is being reviewed and actions are being taken based on it. We are all looking forward to seeing what will come out of this work.
Another project on the table revolves around the Parliament elections, which will be held at the beginning of the fall. It is important to assess the position of candidates in all matters affecting students. From education to student loans, from equal rights to employment, we must ensure that students are on equal footing in Icelandic society. The aim is to meet as many candidates as possible with the goal of allowing students make informed decisions when voting begins. The executive board of LÍS will certainly handle this work with unique splendor.
It is clear that the presidency demands a lot out of an individual. I was thrown immediately into the deep end and I am still finding my footing. Despite this, this month has been pleasant and I know that bright times are ahead for me as well as everyone who is alongside me.
